USA Expected to Host 2031 Women’s World Cup

Football News

The United States is expected to host the 2031 Women`s World Cup, possibly with other North American countries. The United Kingdom is likely to host the 2035 tournament. FIFA announced on Thursday that these are the only bids for each event.

The deadline for submitting bids to FIFA is this Saturday. No other countries are expected to bid. Those who meet the Saturday deadline have until May 5th to officially confirm their bids.

U.S. Soccer initially wanted to host the 2027 World Cup but switched focus to 2031. Mexico was initially part of the 2031 bid and may still co-host. Other Concacaf nations might also join as hosts. FIFA is considering expanding the Women`s World Cup, similar to the men`s tournament expansion for 2026, which the US, Mexico, and Canada will co-host.

U.S. Soccer stated their excitement to potentially co-host the 2031 World Cup with Concacaf partners. They aim to create a lasting impact that promotes women`s soccer globally. They are working with Concacaf on partnership details as FIFA decides on the tournament size. More information about their plans will be shared soon.

The USA has hosted the Women`s World Cup twice before, in 1999 and 2003. The US team won the 1999 tournament, one of their four titles. The 2003 event was moved from China to the US due to the SARS outbreak.

By 2031, the US will have experience hosting both the 1994 and 2026 Men`s World Cups.

The 2035 World Cup is planned to be jointly hosted by England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. None of these countries have hosted the Women`s World Cup before. England hosted the 1966 Men`s World Cup and the successful 2022 Women`s Euro.

England FA CEO Mark Bullingham expressed honor in being the sole bidder for 2035. He stated that hosting with partner nations would be special and that they are starting work on creating the best bid by the end of the year.

FIFA will officially announce the hosts for both the 2031 and 2035 Women`s World Cups in the second quarter of 2026.
