Tare Discusses Pulisic and Musah’s Roles at AC Milan

Football News

AC Milan`s sporting director, Igli Tare, who joined the club this summer to initiate a new phase following a season that didn`t meet expectations, recently spoke to the media. He addressed the summer transfer activities, particularly focusing on American international players Yunus Musah and Christian Pulisic.

Speaking about Musah, who is reportedly in discussions about a potential summer departure, Tare clarified the situation. “I regard Musah as an excellent player,” Tare stated, “but we are seeking profiles with characteristics that align with the project we are building with coach Allegri. We require deep-lying midfielders for a three-man midfield setup. Musah does not possess these specific attributes. He can play in a two or three-man midfield, but with different functions. This is the primary reason why we are considering alternative options.”

Tare also outlined further transfer market plans: “We are looking to add another midfielder along with a striker. We will sign both a right-back and a left-back. Should any players be sold, we will also look to strengthen the winger and central defense positions. The same applies to attacking wingers. Our focus is on making the best possible additions for the team to be competitive.”

While Musah`s future at the Italian club after this summer appears uncertain, the situation is quite different for Pulisic. Both Tare and Allegri view the American winger as a crucial component of the team`s strategy. Tare confirmed: “Pulisic will be a key player for the upcoming season. I will have the opportunity to discuss his contract renewal with club CEO Giorgio Furlani at the appropriate time, but currently, our sole focus is on the team. I believe he was one of the most positive performers last season and is considered one of the pillars for the next season; he holds a central role within this group.”

Over his two years at AC Milan, Musah was deployed in various midfield roles, yet this versatility did not translate into a consistent key role within the squad. He appeared as a central midfielder, a right-central midfielder, and occasionally even on the attacking flank or at right-back. While his flexibility allowed him to play 80 games, it perhaps also impacted his ability to cement a single position. Pulisic, however, was one of the standout players for the Rossoneri last season, contributing 17 goals and 12 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.
