Anthony Pettis, known for his spectacular moves in the UFC, including the iconic `Showtime kick,` now runs his own promotion, Anthony Pettis FC (APFC).
APFC promotes itself as the fastest-growing MMA organization in the US, with events streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
MMA Fighter Performs The Rock’s Move at APFC Event
APFC 16 took place on Sunday in Milwaukee. Dustin Poirier was present to witness the fights, including title bouts.
However, it was a prelim fight that grabbed attention. Miguel Sanson went viral after dramatically delivering The Rock`s People`s Elbow.
While MMA has seen unusual moves, this instance might be the first time a fighter incorporated a well-known WWE finishing move.
Shortly after the People`s Elbow, Sanson overpowered his opponent, Chris Johnson, concluding with a slam on his head, reminiscent of WWE style.
The fight`s aftermath was concerning as Johnson required oxygen and was stretchered out of the cage after being unresponsive on the ground.
Following the match, Johnson accused Sanson on social media of multiple fouls during their fight, including illegal strikes.
Dustin Poirier Experienced Similar Move After UFC Knockout
Interestingly, Dustin Poirier himself was on the receiving end of The Rock’s move by referee Herb Dean after his KO loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291.
Poirier`s appearance at APFC 16 comes at a time when his fighting future is uncertain. After losing to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, he mentioned retiring after his next fight.
Despite no confirmed bout, rumors suggest Poirier may complete a trilogy fight with Max Holloway, the current BMF champion.
