Mexico Team Changes Hotel in LA Due to Protests Ahead of Gold Cup

Citing security concerns, the Mexican national soccer team has altered its lodging arrangements in Los Angeles just before the Concacaf Gold Cup starts. Originally set for downtown LA, the team, known as El Tri, is moving to Long Beach to steer clear of downtown disturbances. Their first Gold Cup match is against the Dominican Republic on Saturday, June 14.

The decision to move is a direct result of the ongoing anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles, reportedly in their fifth consecutive night. Given the deployment of National Guard and U.S. Marines in the city, Concacaf sanctioned this last-minute alteration to the team`s plans.

As the current Gold Cup titleholders, Mexico aims for a third straight victory in this regional competition, following their win in the Concacaf Nations League in March. Competing in Group A, they are scheduled to play against Costa Rica, Suriname, and the Dominican Republic. This tournament serves as their final major competitive test before the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
