Juventus Replaces Manager Thiago Motta with Igor Tudor

Football News

Juventus has ended Thiago Motta`s unsuccessful time as manager. The club announced they have dismissed him before the end of the season. Former Lazio coach Igor Tudor has been appointed as the caretaker manager until the season concludes.

Juventus released a statement on Sunday confirming Thiago Motta`s departure. They thanked him and his staff for their dedication and professionalism during their time at the club and wished them well for the future. The statement also announced Igor Tudor as the new first team coach, who will start training with the team on Monday, March 24th.

Igor Tudor is familiar with Juventus, having played for the club and served as Andrea Pirlo`s assistant coach during the 2020-21 season. Before returning to Juventus, he managed Hellas Verona, Olympique Marseille, and briefly Lazio after Maurizio Sarri`s resignation. Despite initially being intended for a longer term role at Lazio, Tudor left after three months. Lazio later hired Marco Baroni as their head coach in the summer of 2024.

Thiago Motta`s time at Juventus is considered unsuccessful. He was brought in to start a new chapter after Massimiliano Allegri`s dismissal, but he failed to meet expectations. Despite Juventus still competing for a Champions League spot, they were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Empoli and from the UEFA Champions League playoffs by PSV.

Beyond results, Motta could not replicate the exciting style of football he demonstrated at Bologna last season, where he led the team to their first-ever Champions League qualification. Reports also suggest that some key players, including Dusan Vlahovic and Kenan Yildiz, were unhappy with his coaching.

Juventus will play Genoa next week in Turin after the international break, marking Tudor`s first game in charge. He is expected to manage the team at least until the end of the FIFA Club World Cup, where Juventus will play against Manchester City, Wydad Casablanca, and Al-Ain in the group stage. In their last two Serie A matches against Fiorentina and Atalanta, Juventus conceded seven goals and scored none. The 4-0 home defeat against Atalanta was their worst home loss in Serie A since 1967. These defeats contributed to growing dissatisfaction among fans and prompted the club to make a quick decision regarding Motta`s future.
