Juventus Considering Replacing Manager Thiago Motta

Football News

Thiago Motta`s time as Juventus manager is likely coming to an end. Club leadership is reportedly in discussions about dismissing him before the current season concludes. According to Sky Italy, the Italian club is expected to replace the former Bologna manager in the near future.

Should Thiago Motta be dismissed, Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has identified Igor Tudor, formerly head coach of Lazio, as a potential interim manager until the end of the season. Tudor, who previously played for Juventus and served as Andrea Pirlo`s assistant in the 2020-21 season, has also managed Hellas Verona and Olympique Marseille. His recent stint at Lazio ended after three months following Maurizio Sarri`s resignation, and Lazio later appointed Marco Baroni as head coach in the summer of 2024.

Motta`s tenure at Juventus has been largely unsuccessful, especially considering he was brought in to usher in a new era after Massimiliano Allegri`s departure. Despite high expectations, Motta has struggled to deliver. While Juventus remains in contention for a Champions League spot, they were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Empoli and from the UEFA Champions League playoffs by PSV Eindhoven.

Beyond just results, Motta has not been able to replicate the exciting and effective style of football that characterized his time as Bologna manager last season, where he led the team to their first-ever UEFA Champions League qualification. Furthermore, reports indicate that several key players, including Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic and Turkish talent Kenan Yildiz, are dissatisfied with the current coach.

Juventus is scheduled to play Genoa in Turin next week following the international break. However, it appears unlikely that Motta will be on the bench for that game. In their last two Serie A matches against Fiorentina and Atalanta, Juventus conceded seven goals and scored none. Notably, the 4-0 home defeat against Atalanta marked Juventus`s worst home loss in a Serie A match since October 1967. These results have widened the gap between the fans and the manager, with many urging the club to make a swift decision regarding Motta`s future.
