Islam Makhachev has shared a video showcasing a promising fighter who has traveled from his home country to Dagestan to master Sambo.
Dagestan, a region in Russia, is famous for producing top MMA fighters like Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Despite criticism from some fighters, Dagestan`s training environment is clearly effective.
Now, a fighter from outside Russia is seeking to learn from Dagestan`s renowned grappling expertise.
Fighter Travels from Spain to Train with Islam Makhachev
In a recent interview, Islam Makhachev suggested that Daniel Cormier send his son to Dagestan for wrestling training, saying a few years there would greatly improve his skills.
Makhachev mentioned, “If you want your son to have high-level wrestling, send him 2-3 years in Dagestan and forget. Six months, one time, you can call him.”
It seems someone has taken this advice seriously. Makhachev posted a video on Instagram of himself speaking with a new fighter from Spain.
Makhachev greeted him in Spanish, “Como estas, amigo?” which means “How are you, friend?”
The fighter replied that he was “Good, but so tired.”
Makhachev then jokingly asked if he was “Barcelona number one?”
The fighter playfully corrected him, saying “No, Madrid, number one.”
Makhachev then made a lighthearted comment about the fighter being the “First guy who come to Dagestan, for two-three years.”
Islam Makhachev Invites UFC Legend to Dagestan
Besides encouraging Daniel Cormier to visit Dagestan, Makhachev has also invited other prominent figures in MMA to experience his homeland.
Makhachev is proud of Dagestan and wants to show leading figures in the sport what it has to offer.
He recently extended an invitation to a UFC legend to come and see Dagestan.
