Switzerland`s domestic beach volleyball calendar recently witnessed a significant first. On June 21st and 22nd, Swiss Volley hosted the inaugural national beach volleyball championship specifically for clubs. Held across the venues in Kloten and Bessersdorf, this event was more than just a bid for national honors; it also served as the crucial qualifying stage for the preliminary phase of the upcoming CEV Beach Volley European Cup.
The structure of the competition introduced an innovative element to Swiss beach volleyball, focusing on clubs competing as unified entities rather than the traditional individual pairs format. This approach was notably well-received by the athletes, who expressed genuine enjoyment in representing their clubs and experiencing this unique team-centric dynamic on the sand.
Under favorable weather conditions that provided an ideal backdrop for high-level play, the participating clubs delivered a series of competitive and engaging matches. The new format contributed to several tightly contested duels, highlighting both the talent within Swiss beach volleyball and the potential for club structures in the sport.
Nidau Volley topped the men`s podium.
Following the intense competition, two clubs emerged triumphant, securing their place in Swiss beach volleyball history. In the men`s category, Nidau Volley claimed the championship title. Demonstrating consistent performance and strategic execution, they stood out as the strongest contenders.
The players from the Beachvolley Academy Bern triumphed in the women`s competition.
The women`s competition saw the Beachvolley Academy Bern rise to the top. Their victory underscored their preparation and skill, earning them the distinction of being the first women`s club champions under this new national format.
As champions, Nidau Volley and Beachvolley Academy Bern have now earned the significant opportunity to represent Switzerland internationally. They are scheduled to participate in the preliminary phase of the CEV Beach Volley European Cup 2025, set to take place in September. While the specific venues and dates for this European stage are pending confirmation, the Swiss champions can now turn their focus towards preparing for this upcoming challenge.
The successful execution of this first national club championship in Kloten and Bessersdorf represents a positive step for Swiss beach volleyball, providing a clear pathway from domestic competition to the European stage and highlighting the potential of the club-based format.
