Future Uncertain: Alpine Weighs Dropping Jack Doohan for Imola

F1 News

Alpine is reportedly considering replacing Australian driver Jack Doohan for the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.

Doohan, who joined for the 2025 F1 season, faced scrutiny following Alpine`s decision to appoint Franco Colapinto as reserve driver.

The 22-year-old rookie has yet to earn points this season. He expressed frustration after being knocked out early in Sprint Qualifying at the Miami Grand Prix and later retired from the main race after a collision with Liam Lawson on the first lap.

Sources indicate Alpine is reviewing Doohan`s position and is expected to finalize a decision this week, ahead of the Emilia Romagna GP (May 16-18), which kicks off the European leg of the season.

Alpine has not commented on the speculation.

Team principal Oliver Oakes did not hold the usual media briefing after the Miami race.

When asked about Doohan`s participation in Imola during a press conference the previous Friday, he stated, “As it stands today, Jack is our driver alongside Pierre. We`ve been clear on that. We always evaluate, but yes – that remains the case for now.”

He also commented that Doohan “needs to continue doing a good job,” acknowledging that “there`s always speculation.”

Doohan has not scored any points for Alpine in his seven races since his F1 debut at the 2023 season finale in Abu Dhabi. His best result was 13th place at the Chinese Grand Prix.

He has been involved in two significant incidents: a crash during his home race in Australia earlier this season and another during Friday practice in Japan.

Doohan, the 2023 Formula 2 Championship runner-up, finished 17th (lapped) in the Saudi Arabian GP and retired from the Miami race on the opening lap.

Pierre Gasly is responsible for all seven of Alpine`s points this season, earning seventh place in Bahrain and a point in the Miami Sprint race.
