F1 2026 Calendar Confirmed: Australia Opens Season, Madrid Added

F1 News

Formula 1 has officially released the 2026 season calendar, featuring 24 races. Australia will retain its position as the host of the opening round.

As previously announced, Madrid is the sole new circuit added to the schedule, becoming the host of a Spanish Grand Prix. Notably, Barcelona will also feature on the 2026 calendar, marking the final year of its current agreement with F1.

As anticipated, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola is not included in the 2026 schedule, having hosted five races since its return in 2020.

Similar to 2025, the timing of Ramadan necessitates Bahrain not hosting the season opener in March. This results in Melbourne`s Albert Park circuit hosting the first race, the second of five mandated openers under its contract extending to 2037.

Formula 1 will open a season in Melbourne for the 24th time.

The season kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix on March 8th, followed by the Chinese Grand Prix a week later. Japan hosts a standalone race weekend before a back-to-back event in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in mid-April.

For the first time, the Canadian Grand Prix is scheduled for May, moved forward from its traditional slot to follow the Miami Grand Prix, aiming for a more geographically sensible calendar flow.

To accommodate this change, the Monaco Grand Prix moves to a later date, initiating a continuous run of European races through the summer, beginning in early June.

The British Grand Prix retains its usual position, with the Silverstone event set for July 5th.

The newly introduced Madrid race will conclude the European leg of the season in September.

The 2026 calendar features only two triple-header events, both occurring towards the end of the season.

The races in Austin, Mexico City, and Sao Paulo will form one triple-header. The season concludes with a second triple-header featuring Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.

President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali, commented: `We are excited to welcome Madrid to the calendar, and to see huge automotive brands like Audi, Cadillac and Ford join the Formula 1 grid. It promises to be an unforgettable season, where once again we will come together at 24 amazing global venues to watch the best drivers in the world push themselves to the limit and produce incredible wheel to wheel racing for our millions of fans watching around the globe.`

President of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, added: `My thanks to everyone involved in putting on this incredible season and in delivering a calendar that continues to drive the sport forward on all fronts. And, my thanks to the fans whose passion and unwavering support keep the spirit of our sport alive.`
