Expanded FIFA Club World Cup 2025: Schedule and Results

Football News

The summer football calendar is undergoing a transformation this year with the FIFA Club World Cup. This edition marks the debut of the expanded competition, featuring 32 teams from around the world converging on the United States. They will compete for a share of the significant $1 billion prize pool.

Several prominent clubs are participating in this new format, ranging from UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain to Argentinian giants Boca Juniors, all aiming for deep runs in the tournament. European teams form the largest contingent with 12 participants, while South America is represented by six clubs. Four teams each come from Asia and Africa, and five, including three from MLS, represent North America. Oceania has one spot, occupied by Auckland City, notably the only amateur side in the competition.

While the fundamental objectives are shared by all, the stakes vary for individual teams. Underdogs such as Lionel Messi`s Inter Miami and Simone Inzaghi-led Al-Hilal hope to challenge the European clubs widely expected to dominate. Meanwhile, teams crossing the Atlantic like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Inzaghi`s former side Inter Milan (who concluded their domestic and continental seasons without silverware) are eager to meet expectations and claim this final trophy of the campaign.
