Newcastle manager Eddie Howe will be absent from his team`s Premier League fixture against Manchester United on Sunday due to hospitalization. Howe had been feeling unwell for several days and was admitted to the hospital on Friday night for further examination.
A statement from the club conveyed: `Medical professionals decided to keep Eddie in the hospital overnight for additional tests, which are still in progress. He is conscious, communicating with his family, and continues to receive expert medical attention.
`Everyone associated with Newcastle United sends their warmest wishes to Eddie for a swift recovery. Further updates will be provided as they become available.`
In his absence, assistant managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will take charge of the Magpies at St. James` Park for a match of significant importance in the club`s ambitions to qualify for the Champions League. Newcastle currently holds the seventh position in the Premier League standings but will have played two fewer games than every team above them by the time Sunday`s match commences.
Newcastle will play their other game in hand on Wednesday when they host Crystal Palace.
Speaking on Friday, as he stood in for Howe at the press conference, Tindall commented on Newcastle`s boss: `He has been quite unwell over the past couple of days, but we have maintained daily communication.
`We have been in contact three or four times a day, so it hasn`t disrupted any of the preparations. We still have a couple of days, and I am confident he will be well for the weekend.`
