Following their decisive victory over the Washington Capitals, the Carolina Hurricanes are set to compete in the Eastern Conference Finals as they continue their quest for the Stanley Cup. The team wasted no time in celebrating their advancement, particularly on social media platforms.
Carolina secured their place in the next round by eliminating the conference`s top-seeded Capitals in five games. The series-clinching moment occurred in a dramatic 3-1 Game 5 win, sealed late in the third period by a go-ahead goal from Andrei Svechnikov with less than two minutes remaining.
Immediately after the conclusion of Game 5, the Hurricanes` social media team engaged in several playful jabs directed at their defeated opponent.
Their initial post, shared right after the final horn on Thursday, targeted the Capitals` name directly. The team uploaded a photograph of a computer keyboard with the `shift` and `caps lock` keys notably removed, accompanied by the succinct caption `no caps`.
The Hurricanes also used their social media presence to mock those who have previously criticized their style of play and even took a swipe at Washington, D.C., the home city of the Capitals organization.
However, arguably their most biting comment was reserved for Friday. In response to a morning tweet from Washington`s Dulles International Airport, the Hurricanes cleverly suggested that an additional trip to Cancun, Mexico — a popular vacation spot — would likely be added to the Capitals` travel itinerary following their Game 5 exit.
Looking ahead, Carolina will face the winner of the ongoing series between the Florida Panthers and the Toronto Maple Leafs for the Eastern Conference Finals championship.
