At least eight individuals sustained minor injuries when a car collided with a crowd outside the stadium during Barcelona`s match against Espanyol on Thursday. Local authorities have stated the incident was an accident.
The event unfolded during the initial moments of the game at Barcelona`s RCDE Stadium. The vehicle drove into a group of supporters. Fans inside the venue became aware of the situation and attempted to get the game stopped, calling out to Espanyol`s goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, to attract the referee`s attention. Some even went onto the edge of the pitch to alert Garcia, which led to a brief pause in play, though these individuals were subsequently escorted from the stadium by security.
Preliminary reports indicated that all injuries were minor. Salvador Ilia, president of the government of Catalonia, confirmed that this was not considered an intentional attack.
Local police released a statement assuring that there was no danger to anyone inside RCDE Stadium, a message also conveyed within the venue itself.
Despite the disruption, the match continued, and Barcelona secured a 2-0 victory with a goal from Lamine Yamal. This win officially clinched the La Liga championship for Barcelona.
