Concacaf has announced a two-game suspension for Canada`s head coach, Jesse Marsch. This decision comes after his behavior during the Concacaf Nations League finals in March. Marsch was given a red card in the third-place match against the U.S. men`s national team.
The incident occurred in the second half of Canada`s 2-1 victory over the USMNT. Marsch was ejected for his conduct towards the referee, which included entering the field. He was forced to watch the rest of the game from the stands and will now miss two upcoming games due to the suspension from the North American soccer confederation`s disciplinary review.
According to a statement from Concacaf, the Disciplinary Committee initially imposed a one-match suspension for `unacceptable conduct towards match officials` and `delaying the restart of the match`. This has been increased to a two-match suspension, accounting for the automatic one-match ban from the red card. Furthermore, both the Canadian Soccer Association and Mr. Marsch have been warned of potentially stricter penalties for any future incidents.
Marsch will be absent for Canada`s first two matches in the Concacaf Gold Cup in June. Canada`s tournament begins on June 17 against Honduras at BC Place in Vancouver, followed by a game against Curacao on June 21 at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.
