BBC confirm Wimbledon broadcast team with Clare Balding, Isa Guha and John McEnroe but no place for Nick Kyrgios

Sports News

The BBC has officially announced its lineup of presenters, pundits, and commentators who will cover this year`s Wimbledon Championships.

Tennis enthusiasts can anticipate coverage from several prominent former players, including familiar figures like John McEnroe, Tim Henman, and Martina Navratilova.

However, Nick Kyrgios, who was featured in the BBC`s coverage last year, is not included in this year`s team.

Isa Guha is scheduled to present the early coverage each day, with Clare Balding taking over presenting duties in the afternoon.

Qasa Alom is confirmed to continue hosting the nightly highlights show, `Today at Wimbledon`, a role he began in 2023 after taking over from Balding.

Presenters will be joined by a rotation of expert pundits, including high-profile former players such as McEnroe, Henman, Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Pat Cash, Tracy Austin, and Annabel Croft.

The commentary team features names like Andrew Castle, Chris Bradnam, Nick Lester, and Simon Reed, among others.

Regarding his exclusion, Kyrgios, the Australian former finalist, told The Guardian last week: "It’s unfortunate but it’s probably their loss more than mine."

The 30-year-old athlete also described the BBC`s decision as "very strange".

Similar to Kyrgios, Andy Murray will also not be joining the BBC`s punditry team this year.

After retiring from professional tennis last year, the two-time Wimbledon champion has not been enticed to join the commentary booth.

The BBC will also provide extensive radio coverage throughout the two-week tournament.

The 5 Live radio broadcast team will be led by Gigi Salmon, Clare McDonnell, and Steve Crossman. They will be joined by contributors including Cash, Croft, Laura Robson, and Greg Rusedski.

As in previous years, McEnroe and Henman will host the popular `6-Love-6` phone-in show on 5 Live.

A new addition this year is the availability of individual match highlights on BBC iPlayer.

Changes will also be made to the main highlights package, `Today at Wimbledon`.

Instead of a fixed broadcast time on BBC Two during the first week, the long-running highlights show will now air after the live tennis coverage concludes.

The Telegraph has reported that the first episode of `Today at Wimbledon` for this year`s Championships, scheduled for next Monday, will start at 11:55 pm.

A BBC spokesperson commented to SunSport: "Live Wimbledon coverage is scheduled to air on BBC One or BBC Two until 10 pm in the first week, and until 9 pm from the second week, when matches typically finish earlier.

"We wouldn’t show highlights on another channel during live play, so Today at Wimbledon will be available on BBC iPlayer and scheduled on BBC Two later in the evening, depending on when play ends.

"It’s currently set for 8 pm from Tuesday 8th to Friday 11th July, when earlier finishes are expected.”
