Oscar Piastri achieved a commanding victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix, while George Russell managed to fend off Lando Norris to secure second place.
McLaren`s Piastri led the race from start to finish, crossing the finish line 15 seconds ahead of Mercedes` Russell. His significant seven-second lead had been nullified earlier in the race due to a safety car intervention.
Norris, who started sixth on the grid, overtook Ferrari`s Charles Leclerc in the final stages to claim the third spot on the podium after a race filled with action.
Russell faced an investigation after the race for a DRS issue as some technical problems arose on his car towards the end. However, he avoided any penalty as officials determined he did not gain an unfair advantage.
Leclerc, after a poor start from second position, finished fourth. Lewis Hamilton, Leclerc`s Ferrari teammate, had a more successful race, gaining four positions to finish fifth.
World champion Max Verstappen finished a challenging race, marked by slow pit stops for Red Bull, in sixth place. He managed to pass Alpine`s Pierre Gasly on the last lap.
Yuki Tsunoda, Verstappen`s teammate, earned his first points for the team, finishing ninth, between Haas drivers Esteban Ocon (P8) and Oliver Bearman (P10). Bearman achieved an impressive result, gaining 16 positions.
This victory marked the first win for Bahrain-owned McLaren at their `second home race`. Combined with Norris`s third place, McLaren extended their lead over Mercedes in the constructors` championship to 58 points.

Piastri Secures McLaren`s Bahrain Victory
Piastri`s race performance mirrored the weekend`s trend, with the Australian driver consistently extracting top performance from his McLaren, while Norris faced more challenges.
Despite expectations for a Red Bull one-two finish in qualifying, Norris`s mistake on his final lap placed him sixth on the grid, while Piastri secured pole position.
In the race, Piastri maintained his lead from the start, holding off Russell at the first corner and gradually increasing his advantage.
His lead grew to seven seconds after the first pit stops. A safety car, deployed on lap 32 due to track debris, prompted the leaders to make their second pit stops earlier than planned.
This situation favored McLaren, as they had a fresh set of medium tires available, unlike Russell, who had to manage the final 25 laps on fading soft tires.
Piastri managed the restart effectively and dominated the final stint, securing his second win of the season and reinforcing his status as a championship contender.
Piastri commented, `It`s been an amazing weekend, starting with qualifying yesterday and finishing the race in style today. It`s particularly important for our team owners, especially as this track hasn`t traditionally been favorable for us. It`s great to get our first win here.`
Norris Laments `Messy Race` and Missed Opportunity
After his qualifying error, Norris aimed to secure a McLaren one-two behind Piastri. He made a strong start, gaining three positions in the initial corners, but was soon penalized with a five-second penalty for starting out of position.
Unable to overtake Russell in the first stint, the penalty eliminated any chance of an undercut against Mercedes.
Norris struggled for pace in the second stint and was overtaken by Leclerc, briefly losing fourth place to Hamilton after the safety car restart.
Although Norris quickly regained his position, the battle cost him time. A significant lock-up further delayed his attempt to pass Leclerc, which he eventually accomplished with five laps remaining.
He closed in on Russell but made a mistake at the first corner on the final lap, losing his opportunity to challenge for second place.
Norris reflected, `It was a tough race. I made too many errors with overtakes and was out of position at the start. Overall, a messy race from my side. It`s disappointing not to achieve a one-two for McLaren, which would have been fantastic here.`
