Austrian Grand Prix 2025: Event Guide

F1 News

Formula 1 returns to Europe for the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, where the championship battle intensifies.

In the Drivers` Championship, Oscar Piastri holds a 22-point lead over teammate Lando Norris. Their battle intensified after a collision in the recent Canadian GP led to Norris`s retirement.

Max Verstappen reduced the gap but is still 43 points behind Piastri. He aims for victory at Red Bull`s home circuit, the Red Bull Ring, having won there five times before.

George Russell, last year`s Austrian GP winner, secured Mercedes` first win of 2025 in Montreal, a race where Kimi Antonelli achieved his first podium.

Ferrari plans to introduce car upgrades in Spielberg, hoping to bring Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton closer to the leading positions.

Formula 2 and Formula 3 are also part of the weekend schedule, promising a busy event in Austria. The full weekend can be followed live.

Red Bull Ring Track Layout

The Red Bull Ring is notable for having one of the shortest lap times on the F1 calendar. Assuming dry conditions, pole position is expected to be around the 1 minute 3 second mark this year.

The 2.7-mile circuit officially features 10 corners, although only seven require significant braking. It`s considered a good track for overtaking, featuring three continuous DRS zones from the start/finish straight through to Turn 4.

The uphill section leading to Turn 3 is often a site for action. Notable incidents include clashes between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton on the final lap in 2016, Verstappen and Leclerc in 2019, and Verstappen and Norris in 2024.

The lap concludes with two quick right turns. Track limits were a past issue here, but the addition of gravel traps on the corner exits has helped mitigate this problem.

Austrian GP Weather in Spielberg

The current forecast for the Austrian Grand Prix indicates no rain during any session, with sunny conditions and temperatures around 30°C expected throughout the three days.

However, teams remain aware that thunderstorms can develop rapidly in the hills around Spielberg.
